User Problems and Suggestions

Clark: The Air Printer is running, but when I print, it shows that the printer is offline. What should I do?

I tried to Print from my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 7 again.  Same problem:  they see the Air Printer but they say "The printer is offline.”
That implies to me that the Air Printer is not communicating back to the iPad.

This time I tried my wife’s iPad Air 4 and her iPhone SE.  They both worked perfectly!  How’s that for a mystery?
All four devices are using iOS 15 and all on the same wifi network snd able to communicate with the iMac.

I'm looking forward to get your help, thanks.

Reply and solution

Please check that your iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 7 wifi network is the same as iPad Air 4 and her iPhone SE?

1. If you have multiple wifi routers in your home and connect to the network by bridging, they may not communicate with the mac, so you need them to connect to the same wifi network name or the same network segment.

You can click wifi information to check whether the network is in a network segment.

2. Your router may be divided into 2.4G and 5G networks. You should also check whether the wifi uses the same frequency signal.

For example: My home network has two signals, one signal WiFi name is NETGERA79, and the other signal WiFi name is NETGERA79-5G.
The Air Printer app is running on my iMac computer, and my iMac is connected to NETGERA79, but the iPhones and iPads are connected to NETGERA79-5G.
Problem : When i print from iPhone to iMac, it said "The printer is offline”, which means although they can search for iMac printers nearby, but they cannot transfer data.
Solution: All iMac, Windows PC, iPhone and iPad are connected to the same WiFi network NETGERA79 or NETGERA79-5G. more accurately, within the same LAN IP segment:
For example, if your computer is 192.168.3. x, then your mobile IP address also needs to be 192.168.3.y.
if your computer is 10.0.0.x, then your mobile IP address also needs to be 10.0.0.y.

For macOS computer

For Windows computer

In the screenshot example above, my iPhone network IP address is 10.0.0.7, The macOS computer address is 10.0.0.6; The Windows computer address is 10.0.0.28; They are all connected to the WiFi network(named NETGEAR79), and the network IP address is within the 10.0.0. x network segment. The above configuration is correct,  so my iPhone can print successfully (The IP addresses of iPhones, Macs, or Windows computers have the same prefix).

(The WiFi is connected to same with iPhone / iPad device / Macbook / iMac / Windows PC)
